Warts that appear on the feet are called plantar warts. Plantar warts are noncancerous skin growths on the soles of your feet caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which enters your body through tiny cuts, breaks or other vulnerable sites on the skin of your feet. Plantar warts are usually found on the soles of the feet and the pressure of walking flattens and pushes them back into the skin. Warts can be passed from person to person. They can take up to 3 months for it to appear after infection. In order to prevent warts it is important not to walk barefoot in public areas like pools and locker rooms. Do not pick at warts and avoid clipping toenails over areas where there are warts. Most plantar warts aren’t a serious health concern and may not require treatment. However, plantar warts can be bothersome or painful. If self-care treatments for plantar warts don’t work, you may need to see your doctor to have them removed.
